Nine Inch Nails to Roskilde

The Roskilde Festival is probably the greatest music festival I have and will ever attend. I have been there the last three years and I intend to go back this summer. Today they announced that Nine Inch Nails will be attending, wich is insanly awesome. Here is some NIN godness.

by:Larm Day 3

So the last day of by:Larm was sort of a bummer becuase we only got to se two acts. The reason(s) where mainly snow, alcohol and subway delays due to all the friggin snow! As a rescue the two acts we did manage to se where great so it all ads up.

Always blame the snow

Katzenjammer

Contry like somehting or the other, describing these concerts in simple terms isn’t always easy and Katzenjammer does not really fall strait into one word or genre. Four lovely ladies playing dozens of instruments like acoustic bass, mandolin, banjo and accordian making sweet and catchy music with their pretty voices. Spotify link.

Hard to define and hard not to like

Superfamily

With some supermegahits on the Norwegian charts and radios this group of hard hitting young men where in the more famous category of by:Larm performers, but that didn’t mean they where going to slug allong a mediocre performance. Music that just makes you want to sing, dance and enjoy life. Perhaps the name is meant as “we are all one superfamily!”? Spotify link.

Look at these guys, you just must like them!

Day Three Roundup and by:Larm Wrap Up

All inn all it was a great by:Larm even tough the snowy streets of Oslo weren’t that fun to traverse from place to place. I saw some great artists that I otherwise would never have even heard of and hopefully some of the ones that I liked got noticed by some label or promoter or whatever an artist really needs in 2009 anyway. A nice trend is that many of the artists have content on Spotify, meaning I can check them out wihout having to search the streets or tubes for some kind of release, nice!

by:Larm Day 2

Day was looking dim when our first planned concert of the evening was dropped by me and my friend because we couldn’t get in. Not seing Detektivbyrån wasn’t that big a deal since we both had seen them (they are great by the way) but still a little bummer. Fortunatly things went uphill from there on. Here are the concerts I saw on day 2 of by:Larm.

Matias Tellez

OK rock that didn’t really catch my ear. Sadly for the act the main singer lost his guitar a couple of times during the performance and that’s really all I can remember now. They weren’t bad but as I have said before they just didn’t stand out. Myspace link.

I Was A Teenage Satan Worshipper

These guys where the first great surprise of the evening. With synthpop beats and  hard hitting riffs and drums they reminded me of Nine Inch Nails in a very good way, definitivly have to listen more to these guys. Spotify link.

Pony The Pirate

This years winner of Urørt the place was packed before they went on. Pony the Pirate delivered a solid pop-rock sound with cool additions like steel guitar and saxophone! At the time it was the best concert of the evening. Myspace link.

Juvelen

The nights biggest and best surprise was the funky synth beats of Juvelen from Sweden. Very strong Prince wibe and that in a good way. Check them out! Spotify link.

juvelen

Cool music

Parken

Also from Sweden these guys where also heavy into synths and funk but with more guitar and much more saxaphone (they had two!). Very dance friendly music and the ballad was nice to. Myspace link.

parken

Dance music!

Day Two Roundup

by:Larm keeps on bringing the sounds and bands that one hopes to se on the big stages later this year or maybe the future. Juvelen was the nights winner for me so I am actually listening to them/him right now on Spotify. Also I think I’m noticing a trend with more artists being just one person, or maybe that’s just me.

by:Larm Day 1

Dubbed the “South By Southwest” of the North, by:Larm or “City Sound” is a annual Norwegian music festival arranged for and by the music indistry but also allowes mere mortals to check out bands that haven’t quite made it yet. It’s packed with concerts in small to medium venues and they last for 30 minutes. These are the artists I got to se the first day with a very very short comment or review.

Tyyl

Strait up pop-rock wich reminded me of the seventies. They sing in Norwegian and it works wich is kinda cool. Good music but not really that distinctive. Myspace link.

My Little Pony

A very cute ansemble with three boys and two girls. Played soft-rockish nice tunes with cool sounds from organ, harmonica and blow-organ. Nice and mellow music that I’m inklin to hear more of. Myspace link.

my-little-pony

Nice music

Rockettothesky

Albeit having a very sterotypical “strange girl” image, the sounds made by Jenny Hval and her live assistants was wery Sigur Ros like and just dreamingly nice. Myspace link.

rockettothesky

Strange girl with strange music

Annie

Started out with here Chewing Gum hit single and from there it was more from here next album wich should be releasing soon. Annie should in my opinion had a more tight and entertaining show, but it fell short of anything special. Sound issues on the largest stage of the day didn’t make things better, but the Justice like sound of here new songs shows promise if not a little typical “darker next album” routine. Spotify link.

Micropops

Cute and energistic crew, but the music just didn’t cut it. I will try to listen to them more tough, maybe they are better on album. Spotify link.

Ost & Kjex

Two old guys playing cool and funky electronica with plenty of squeeky vocals. They where very alive and kicking it, seemingly loving their own music more then anything on earth. Not great music for me personally but entertaining to watch none the less.

Day 1 Roundup

Seeing as I was in Trondheim for my last by:Larm in 07 I was a little sceptical for Oslo as a scene (in Trondheim they had almost all concerts under one roof, an old submarine bunker and it was awesome!). But they main stages where pretty much centered and Oslo isn’t that bad I guess. The concert of the day definitivly goes to Rockettothesky, if you like Sigur Ros then check them (her) out!
